Pat Sheehan, CEO
Pat joined First Union Bank’s credit and banking trading training program in 1987. From 1989 through 2000, he worked in the Bank’s capital markets area as a Managing Director in charge of proprietary trading (and from 1994 on as the head fixed income trader). From 2001 until 2003 Pat was employed at RBS Greenwich as a senior proprietary trader in the firm’s London office. Before launching Elevation LLC in 2006, Pat worked in the global rates proprietary trading group within Deutsche Bank, in London and New York City. Pat graduated from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, where he attended on a full football scholarship.

Bill Cunliffe, Partner
Bill is a Cambridge University and MIT aerospace engineering graduate. After a short spell at NASA, Bill went to work for a start-up structured finance fund in London. As a member of the investment advisory team, he helped to build their analytical systems and cash-flow models, analyzed deals and performed due diligence. Bill has developed the analytical and trade and monitoring systems for Elevation LLC and Variant Perception.

Charles C. Lucas III, General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer
Charlie Lucas is General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer of Elevation LLC. He is a graduate of Woodberry Forest School and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he was a Morehead Scholar. He began his career with First Union National Bank in 1984 and worked as a commercial lender for several years. He attended Duke University School of Law where he served as Editor-in-Chief of the Alaska Law Review and obtained his law degree in 1990. After law school, he joined Robinson, Bradshaw & Hinson, P.A. where he specialized in corporate finance, securities law, public finance and banking transactions. In 1996, he joined The McAulay Firm, a highly respected retained search firm, where he was a Partner. Mr. Lucas began working with Elevation on legal matters in 2008 and joined the firm in January 2011. He is a member of the Mecklenburg County Bar and the North Carolina State Bar. In addition to his professional activities on behalf of Elevation, he currently serves as a Trustee of The Duke Endowment, one of the largest foundations in the United States and as a Director of several other corporate and not-for-profit boards.

George Calvo, CFO
George has an extensive background in accounting, including positions in public accounting and the securities industry, as well as eight years as a self-employed consultant providing contract CFO/Controller services, mergers and acquisitions integration support and accounting process consulting. Prior to joining Elevation LLC, George was the CFO of a local start-up swaps brokerage firm that operated a global, inter-dealer hybrid voice-electronic platform for OTC interest rate derivatives. His securities industry career includes eighteen years’ experience with Wachovia Securities/Interstate Johnson Lane in Charlotte as Financial Reporting Manager and Internal Audit Director. George is a graduate of Georgia Southern University, a Certified Public Accountant licensed in North Carolina, and a member of both the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the North Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants.

Sean Link, Partner
Sean is a 2006 graduate of UNC Chapel Hill. After graduation, he started his career with Southern Real Estate, a NAI Global affiliate, in Charlotte, NC in commercial real estate investments and brokerage. Sean joined Elevation in 2010 as a market and financial analyst and obtained his Series 7, 63 and 3 licenses. As a Managing Director, he now oversees all processes associated with finance, operations and trading. Sean was a 4-year letterman on the Varsity Lacrosse team in college and is active as a youth lacrosse coach in Charlotte.

Bill Thompson, CFA, Partner
Before joining Elevation, Mr. Thompson was the President and a Portfolio Manager for Round Table Investment Management Company, a $1.1b (peak) global macro hedge fund group, which he joined in 2008. Prior to that, from 2005 to 2008 he was a portfolio manager in the consumer/industrial group at Hunter Global Investors, a $1.5b long-short equity fund. From 2002 to 2005, he was the Director of Research at Cambium Capital Management, a $150mm long-short equity fund. From 1994 to 2002, he was a co-portfolio manager and senior analyst at James M. Myers & Company, a $700mm investment management company and hedge fund group. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Sales and Trading

Tim Freeman, Partner
Tim joined Elevation LLC in 2011 as a Principal of the firm on its U.S. Equity Derivatives sales desk after a 15 year career at Merrill Lynch and Capstone Global Markets. He manages a highly motivated team experienced in volatility risk and encourages open communication, creative client solutions, appropriate capital commitment and “best in class” client coverage. He continues to recruit top talent to the team while increasing Elevation’s client distribution platform and product offerings. After starting his career as a sales trader in Municipals, Tim became a Managing Director on the Equity Derivatives sales desk at Merrill Lynch. His expertise across different asset classes allows him to effectively cover convertibles, credit, volatility arbitrage, equity long/short and capital structure arbitrage clients. Tim graduated from Pennsylvania State University in 1990 and earned his MBA from University of California, Davis in 1996.

Ian Harris, Institutional Sales & Sales Trading

After completing his MBA in 1997 from Owen Graduate School of Management, Vanderbilt University, Ian joined Barclays Capital as a Risk Analyst and was responsible for Risk Management of their Merger Arbitrage Proprietary Trading Desk.  At the beginning of 1998, Ian was invited to join the desk as a trader.  In 1999, he joined Citadel Investment Group as an Analyst for their Event-Driven team in London.  Ian went on to become the Portfolio Manager for the Event-Driven portfolio of Sagamore Hill, whose London-based team went on to form MKM Longboat which peaked at over $2 Billion of AuM before closing during the financial crisis of 2008.  Partnered with a former colleague from Citadel, he joined Ivaldi Capital in London to create their Event-Driven investments team at the end of 2010.  After 17 years of focusing on Event-Driven investing on the buy-side, Ian joined Elevation LLC in 2014.

Jonathan Kornblatt, CMT
Jon graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law and practiced in the corporate and commercial litigation areas for ten years before being recruited to Wall Street. He applied the rigorous approach of an attorney to the study of technical analysis, leading to his serving as Chief Technician for institutional brokers Burlington Capital Markets and Louis Capital Markets. After Collins Stewart acquired Burlington, Jon was recruited to return and worked there until joining Elevation. While Jon has developed numerous proprietary technical indicators over the years, his daily focus has been enhancing the quality of equity execution for institutional clients.

Christopher J. Matthaei, Partner
Mr. Matthaei joined Elevation in 2010 where he co-founded the Event Driven & Merger Arbitrage Team. Prior to joining, Mr. Matthaei was a Senior Trader at MKM Longboat Capital Partners, a $3b multi-strategy hedge fund based in London, U.K. Prior to MKM Longboat, Mr. Matthaei worked for York Capital Management, GFI Group and Caxton Associates. Mr. Matthaei began his career in 2001 at Goldman Sachs in the Spear, Leeds & Kellogg Trader Training Program. Mr. Matthaei graduated from Gettysburg College.

Frank Miceli, Partner
Frank Miceli began his career on the wealth management group at AG Edwards from 1998-2000. From 2000- 2002 worked at Herzog, Heine & Geduld on the agency trading desk. From 2002-2008 he worked at Jefferies & Co. as a Institutional Sales Trader working both domestic and international hours. From 2008-2009 he worked at Pali Capital helping to build out the Australian/Asia trading platform in the M&A and Event space. In 2009 he worked at Brookview Capital as a Managing Director to help start up Canada/Australia/Asia trading. Frank joined Elevation in 2010 and partnered with Chris Matthaei to co-found the Event Driven/Special Situations and TMT Team with a 24-hour trading desk. The Event Driven Team seeks to assist clients in identifying relative mispricing opportunities between securities whose issuers are involved in mergers, divestitures, restructurings or other corporate events.


Dave Metzger
Dave has worked for 30 years as a trader and portfolio manager. From 1981- 1993 his career was on the proprietary trading and sell side, working primarily in dealer efforts in Los Angeles and Japan. In 1993 Dave joined the Bank of America portfolio group, where he played a variety of trading roles through March of 2009.
